Solo Audition Procedure
Students are expected to sing at their assigned time. As a director, help your students find an appropriate audition piece from the list of anthologies. Distract guidelines state the solo should be between 1.5 and 2 minutes in length. Your student should plan to start at the beginning of the piece. The solo does not need to be memorized. Director
s and Students are responsible for having their own copy of the book. NO PHOTOCOPIES MAY BE USED.
The solo audition if worth 75 points total. The solo component will be judged using the following criteria: Intonation, Tone Quality, Rhythmic and Melodic Accuracy, Diction and Musical Effect.
Sight Reading Audition Procedure
Key Signature Identification: This section of the audition is worth 4 points. There are two points given for each key signature. No partial credit is given (e.g. students do not receive a point for saying “A” if the key signature is “A-Flat”.)
Sight Reading: This section is worth 20 points. Two points are given for each measure: 1 point for singing all the correct rhythms and 1 point for singing all the correct pitches.
Students will have a melodic sight reading example and a part specific sight reading example. Students must stay in the given meter. If a student starts over, they will miss the entire exercise because their measures will not be in sync.
Students must SING, not speak or chant during the sight reading audition.
All solo and sight reading point carry over for Juniors and Seniors auditioning for the All-State choir.
Audition results will be available for viewing on the website by Sunday, September 25, 2016.
