Dear Northeast Music Educators,
Welcome to a new school year. I am excited to serve as your District President for the next two years and be a part of the MMEA Board. The NEMMEA Executive Board is hard at work planning your district events, working with clinicians, reserving venues, and of course attending mandated faculty meetings like every other teacher. One focus area the next two years will be looking at our constitution. Any changes to the constitution will be proposed at the January 2019 MMEA Meeting.
The Northeast District is being represented well at MMEA. Congratulations to the following ensembles that have been selected to perform at the 2019 MMEA Conference.
- Smithton Middle School 8th Grade Band Directed by Brooksie Collins
- University of Missouri Wind Ensemble Directed by Dr. Brian Silvey
- Central Methodist University Chorale Directed by Claude Westfall
- University of Missouri University Singers Directed by R. Paul Crabb
- Rock Bridge High School Chamber Orchestra Directed by Alison Schmidt
If you are a new teacher you need to check into the MMEA Mentoring Conference. This conference is a great way to start your teaching career and make many connections with other new music teachers in the state. Your district has probably assigned you a mentor, but you also want someone that is in your field. You may also contact Erin Johnson, Mentoring Chair firstname.lastname@example.org. If you are aware of any new teachers in the area we also ask you to pass their name along to Erin.
Your NEMMEA Executive Board Officers are here to serve. Do not hesitate to contact them as you are preparing for events this school year. Please check the links below for dates, officers, contact information.
See you at MMEA in January (if not before)!
Kirksville R-III Director of Bands
